“Great review of our Passion week unit. Fun ways to reinforce what we've learned.”
- Grace P.
This engaging and interactive Bible lesson (and accompanying PowerPoint slides) focuses on the tenth and final plague of Egypt, helping students in grades 4-8 understand the significance of the Old Testament Passover lamb and its connection to salvation through Christ.
Covering Exodus 11:1-12:32, this 4-5 hour unit highlights one of the most important Old Testament/New Testament concepts: the Passover lamb as a foreshadowing of Jesus, the Lamb of God. By the end of the lesson, students will grasp the powerful relationship between the Passover and Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Perfect for Christian education and Bible study, this Christian education resource ensures students gain a deeper understanding of God's plan for salvation and the importance of Jesus as the ultimate Passover Lamb.
⭐️ PLEASE NOTE: While reviewed in this lesson, the first nine plagues are covered in more depth in the lesson "Moses and the Plagues of Egypt", sold separately here.
The following topics are covered:
✴️ LESSON PART A ~ FIRST NINE PLAGUES OF EGYPT [Review]
Students write down as many of the plagues as they can remember on their worksheet "Plagues of Egypt" and then using colorful PowerPoint slides (included), you provide "hints" and "reveals". If your students have not previously studied the nine plagues, there are some adaptation ideas included in the lesson.
✴️ LESSON PART B ~ THE FINAL PLAGUE THREATENED
After reading Exodus 11, students are challenged to retell the narrative using just eight pictures. These colorful, full-sized pictures are included in the lesson as well as on a worksheet and several ways to use them are provided in the lesson plan. Included PowerPoint slides are provided to assist students in filling out the worksheet.
✴️ LESSON PART C ~ COLOR CODING EXODUS 12
A hallmark of our "Walking Alongside Jesus" series is that your students will color code a passage in every lesson which trains them to see repeated words, phrases and important details that might be missed in a simple reading. In this lesson, your students will color code Exodus 12:1-13, which describes the Passover preparations made by the Israelites. Using the color coded worksheet, times and dates are underlined in purple, the lamb requirements in green, what was eaten in orange, preparations to be made in red, how to dress for the meal in blue and the purpose in brown.
✴️ LESSON PART D ~ THE PASSOVER
In this section you will need a ribbon stick and a small door frame; simple instructions on how to make both are given in the pre-class preparations section of the lesson. After identifying the first-born sons in your class, you will PASS OVER with your ribbon wand the one boy who is protected by holding the door frame over his head.
✴️ LESSON PART E ~ ✝️ WHAT DID I LEARN ABOUT JESUS?
The lamb of Egypt was a foreshadowing of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Using the colorful worksheet "The Passover Lamb/Lamb of God", students match descriptions of Jesus as the Lamb of God with the Old Testament Passover lamb by looking up seven New Testament references.
