Books of the Bible Activities and Challenges for Field Day or any day!

These competitive challenges are a fun way for students to expend energy while practicing and then solidifying the order and categories of the Old and New Testament books.

Active challenges

Active challenges are designed for larger spaces as they entail movement. Ideally these are done outside or in a gymnasium, but hallways and empty classrooms work well too. Students individually complete common physical challenges (hula hoop, jump rope, jumping jacks and hopscotch) while saying requested categories of books.

Indoor challenges

Indoor challenges are designed for smaller classroom spaces. All that is needed is a wall and table (or floor) space. Students work in pairs on challenges that are mostly mental but have some unique physical elements to them: “Quick Sort”, “Sticky Darts”, “Tumble-downs” and “Who Am I?”

78 Page Comprehensive Packet

Every single detail has been considered to make this a huge success for your group. Included in this 78 page comprehensive packet are:

  • General leader instructions

  • Old Testament and New Testament Bible Books Sheets with categories from which students can study to prepare for the challenges

  • Award “medals” to copy and laminate (if desired)

  • Detailed Clipboard Instructions for both active and indoor challenges (these outline the event, categories of books to focus on and how to time the events which makes them easy to pass off to station leaders as they run the challenge)

  • Station signs for both the active and indoor challenges

  • Timing Cards for students to record their times – two sets, one for active and one for indoor challenges

  • Hopscotch left and right “feet” to create a board

  • Old Testament and New Testament targets for “Sticky Darts Challenge”

  • Bible Book Strips (needed for three events in the indoor challenges)

  • Quick Sort Folders to copy, fold and staple

Equipment Required

Please be aware that for the active challenges you will need some basic equipment: jump rope(s) and hula hoop(s).

The indoor challenges require some sort of tumbling blocks such as dominoes or jenga and something “sticky” such as darts, tumbling men (or you can use marshmallows).

Both challenges will require a timing mechanism (stopwatch or timer).
