Introduce your students to the powerful concept of covenants in the Bible with this engaging, interactive curriculum designed for grades 4-8. Through the Noahic Covenant (with the rainbow as the sign of the covenant) students will discover the difference between promises, contracts, and covenants—and most importantly, they’ll learn how God always keeps His promises!

Lesson Highlights:

✴️A Relatable Story – The lesson begins with an engaging real-life scenario: an uncle who does everything possible to keep his promise to his niece, but unforeseen obstacles (like a traffic jam) delay him. This sets the stage for a meaningful discussion on the differences between our ability to keep promises (that can be hindered even with the best of intentions) versus God’s unfailing ability to keep His promises because He is sovereign over all circumstances.

✴️Interactive Activities – Students will define and compare the terms promises, contracts, and covenants using a fun classification game.

✴️Hands-On Bible Study – In this color-coding activity, students explore Genesis 9:8-17, and mark key elements of God’s covenant with Noah, including the word covenant (which occurs seven times in this short passage), the participants of the covenant, the promises of the covenant, the symbol of the covenant and the duration of the covenant.

✝️ What Have I Learned about Jesus Today?

At the end of this lesson (and every lesson in this series), we invite students to ponder the thought-provoking question: "What have you learned about JESUS today?" In this lesson, students reflect on how God’s faithfulness to Noah foreshadows the fulfillment of His greatest promise—our redemption through Jesus. God promised to send a Savior who would reverse the curse of sin and death which makes Jesus “The Promise”! Praise God for His faithful promise keeping to us!
