❇️ FEAST OF PENTECOST
Connection to Jesus: In the Old Testament, the first fruit of the harvest ~ one sheaf of grain ~ was brought to the temple as an offering as they trusted God in anticipation of the rest of the harvest to come. The feast of Firstfruit, celebrated the Sunday after Passover is the exact day Jesus rose from the dead. This sent a loud and clear message: Jesus’ resurrection from the tomb 2,000 years ago anticipates OUR resurrection from the dead in the future. As described in 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, Jesus received resurrection first as the firstfruit, and then with great expectation, His followers will also be resurrected at His second coming. Jesus is the Firstfruit. He sent the Holy Spirit on Pentecost as a guarantee – He will come back for us!
❇️ FEAST OF TRUMPETS
Connection to Jesus: The Feast of Trumpets is a powerful call to repentance and reconciliation with God, marking the beginning of a solemn ten-day period leading up to Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). It symbolically foreshadows Jesus, who will return as a victorious King to gather His people and deliver them to Heaven—a moment heralded by the sounding of a trumpet. Jesus is our Trumpeted Victor!
❇️ DAY OF ATONEMENT
Connection to Jesus: God sent His Son two thousand years ago to fulfill two important requirements of atonement. Jesus lived a sinless life and therefore His sacrifice ~ crucifixion on a cross ~ was the PERFECT SACRIFICE. Additionally, Jesus Himself offered the sacrifice ~ His own life ~ as our PERFECT HIGH PRIEST.
❇️ FEAST OF BOOTHS
Students learn about massive 75’ tall candelabras that were central to the feast as they illuminated the entire city of Jerusalem. A lighting ceremony showcased and celebrated God’s glory. At the end of the feast, Jesus made a stunning announcement: I am the Light of the World. I am the Light you are celebrating today. To the Jewish mind, LIGHT = GOD and GOD = LIGHT so one can imagine the uproar of the people as Jesus claimed to be God, calling His people out of spiritual darkness and into the light. Jesus is the Light of the World!
❇️ HANUKKAH
Three ways that Jesus delivers us is discussed (although there are many more!) including (a) our bondage/slavery to sin (Romans 6:6), (b) deliverance from afflictions (2 Corinthians 1:8-10) and (c) our final enemy, death (Hebrews 2:14-15). Jesus is Our Deliverer!
❇️ PURIM
Students learn that the book of Esther is not about the ultimate defeat of God’s enemies because Israel continued to face numerous threats to their very existence that live on to this day. Rather, the story of Esther showcases our need for full and final deliverance from our enemies and this can be found only in one Person: Jesus Christ. “Jesus is Our Coming Deliverance”

FAQS:
What Christian perspective is used for these Bible lessons?
I am an evangelical Christian who writes Bible curriculum for older students, and I do not take this tremendous responsibility lightly. Each lesson has a clear focus on what God says in His Word and the lessons are presented age appropriately, thoughtfully and biblically.
What translation of the Bible is used? 99% of the time I use the ESV although on rare occasion I might use another translation such as the NIV.
How can this Bible lesson be used?
Each lesson unit in our Walking Alongside Jesus series is divided into five sections, each section takes between 30 minutes to an hour. This allows homeschool and Christian school teachers to use it daily in the classroom (thereby completing an entire unit in a week) OR in a Sunday School classroom or youth group once a week (thereby completing an entire unit in a month). These lessons are flexible enough to be used in the following settings:
Children's Sunday School class
Youth Group
Private Christian school Bible class
Chapel for Christian schools
Children's Church
Homeschool Bible class
Family Bible time
