Books of the Bible: Bible Dominoes Game
Today, I want to share a fun and interactive way to teach the books of the Bible using dominoes. This method not only makes learning exciting but also fosters a competitive spirit among students. Let’s dive into how you can set it up and make the most of this unique teaching tool!
Why Dominoes?
I absolutely love using dominoes for teaching the books of the Bible. They create an exciting race, leading to a satisfying conclusion. You can easily purchase dominoes at affordable prices from places like Oriental Trading or even find them at your local thrift store. I recommend having several identical sets, as this opens up various racing options, and let’s be honest—students love a good competition!

Getting Started
The first step is to print out the names of the books from the Old Testament or New Testament on small return address labels. Stick these labels firmly onto the backs of the dominoes. Keep the sets separate for students who might prefer to work individually. For those who thrive on competition, divide them into groups of two or more, ensuring each student has their own set of pieces.

Setting Up the Game
All members of a group should place their dominoes in one pile at the center of the play area. The ideal surface for this activity is a tile floor, but a large, stable table will work too. To spice things up, have students start with the book names facing down and mix them up thoroughly. Each student then races to find and arrange a complete set of dominoes before their peers.

Playing the Game
Once students have their dominoes arranged, they should ensure that all sticker names are facing the same direction. This helps them check their work easily. When they feel confident that all books are in order, they can push the first domino and watch the chain reaction! Remind them to push the sticker side of the first domino so a teacher or non-playing student can verify the order. If the books are in the wrong order, they must start again.

Adding Challenges
To add an extra layer of excitement, take one random domino out of each set and hide them around the room. Inform the students that one domino is missing and that they need to determine which one it is through a treasure hunt! Hand out gloves or even mittens for some added hilarity as they try to carefully place the dominoes in order without toppling them.

Blindfolded Challenge
For an even greater challenge, you can have one student blindfolded while another student finds and hands them the dominoes. Alternatively, the sighted student can give verbal directions without any physical help, meaning the blindfolded student must locate and order the dominoes based solely on instructions. I know this is ridiculously hard, but some students thrive on challenges like this!

Creativity is Key!
There are countless ways to help your students become more familiar with the order of the books of the Bible. Use your imagination and the resources at your disposal to create a fun and meaningful time of fellowship and learning. Remember, props are always better than paper!
