Ark of the Covenant Crafts for Kids

Today, I’m excited to share some fun and meaningful ideas on how your kids can create their own versions of the Ark of the Covenant and its contents. These crafts aren't just about making something cool; they serve as wonderful reminders of God's provision, care, and guidance in our lives.

Why These Crafts Matter

As parents and teachers, it's our job to help children understand the significance behind these objects. For instance:

  • Manna: This can remind them that God provides for their physical needs, like food and clothing.
  • The Law: This shows that God cares for their spiritual needs through reading the Bible.
  • Aaron's Rod: This represents how their emotional needs are cared for through leaders in their lives—parents, teachers, and pastors.

So, let’s dive into how to make these crafts together with your kids, turning it into a special time of reflection on what God has done for them.

Crafting Manna

Making manna is super simple, and you don’t need special containers. If you have some, you could use the top and bottom of jars, but a more budget-friendly solution is to grab caps from juice or milk containers.

Here’s how to create your own:

  1. Fill the cap halfway with liquid glue.
  2. Add a spoonful of potato flakes on top.
  3. Let it dry, and after a few minutes, shake off any excess flakes.
  4. If you have time, add another layer of glue and more potato flakes for a thicker look.

Your kids will love this, and it’s a great way to talk about how God provided manna in the wilderness!

Creating Aaron's Rod

Next up is Aaron's rod! Head outside and gather some small sticks. Students could even go outside and choose their own stick.

For older students who can safely use a glue gun, simply glue on almonds and flowers to the sticks.

But if you’re working with younger kids, here’s a neat trick:

  • Use liquid glue to attach almonds to the stick.
  • Lean the almond against the sides of the stick while it dries.
  • Place small flowers on top with a bit of glue.

Let it dry, and while it might not go home right away, it’s a fun and effective method!

Crafting the Ten Commandments

When it comes to the Ten Commandments, you have plenty of options depending on your budget. Here are a few creative ideas:

  • Check out metal place cards from Michaels that look like a book—perfect because the Bible is a book!
  • Use slate coasters, which are inexpensive and sturdy.
  • Chalkboard tags are also a great option since they're not breakable.

If you want to save some cash, visit a home improvement store. They often have individual tile pieces that are pretty cheap, and you can even find tile mosaics for less than three dollars!

Getting Creative with Sticky Tiles

If you want to give your Ten Commandments a unique shape instead of just a square or rectangle, sticky tiles are your friend! They come in 12 by 12 sizes, are very thin, and can easily be cut with scissors.

You can trace your desired shape on the back, and they come in various colors, which is super fun for kids!

Final Thoughts

God instructed the Israelites to keep these three items in the Ark of the Covenant as reminders of His faithfulness and care for their every need. Imagine if our students had their own set of reminders on their nightstand or dresser each morning!
